HEAT OF THE MOMENT: A review on Supernatural:The Mystery Spot

I am writing in the style of MaryAnn Sleasman

IT’S THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT!

Oh.. and Dean dies. For anyone who has seen this Groundhog Day-esq episode they are now desensitized to Dean ding. Could this perhaps be a way in which to get us ready! CAUGHT YOU RED HANDED THE CW! But we’ll get back to that! This episode was filled with the same mystery, heart-stopping, and oh sh*t moments that keep fans coming back.

The episode starts off with dean doing his thing to Asia's “Heat of the Moment”. We get a glimpse of the boys morning routine which was an awkwardly amazing chance to see the non demon killing badass side of our favorite hell raisers. After the morning montage, Sam and Dean go to a local diner to discuss their latest case. A man went missing at the  Broward County Mystery Spot, a local smoke and mirrors house of MYSTERY, fully equipped with fun mirrors and all. .

At the diner Dean spots the "Pig 'n a Poke with a side of bacon" that he falls in love with (wouldn't we all). The waitress is soon to come and as she’s taking their order , she drops a glass bottle of hot sauce.

On the way to the “mystery spot”, the boys pass a leashed golden retriever. WHY TIE YOUR DOG UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY? Anyway.. They also run into a blonde women and a pair of doofy movers struggling to lift a desk into a building.

The episodes namesake of “the mystery spot” is explained in this scene. Upon entry to the Mystery Spot after hours, they ran into the owner. To their surprise (and every audience member) the owner of the “mystery spot” carries a loaded shotgun around with him all the time. But this is a human!! Humans can’t be evil in this show! WRONG! The man shoots dean square in the chest and drops him like a bag of hellstones. About right after I started to second guess everything I knew about life, we hear the oh-so comforting sounds of Asia.

We are again brought back to the same motel room with the same HEAT OF THE MOMENT song blasting from Deans radio. A dream sequence, VERY original!! However, this time at the diner, Sam knows something is off. He tries explaining to Dean that everything LITERALLY just happened. Naturally, (or Supernaturally) Dean doesn't listen to a word Sam says. Dean picks the same meal and the same butterfingers waitress comes over. This time Sam catches the glass bottle!

As they leave the diner, they pass the same parade of the dog, the women and the workers. This time instead of going to the Mystery Spot after hours, Sam convinces Dean to go now. Almost immediately after, Dean is launched spectrally through the air in a sadistic almost hilarious fashion.

Guess what happened next... IT’S THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT! The same morning routine occurs and Sam once again tries to convince Dean. With every Tuesday that repeats itself, Dean believes more and more. The same series of scenes repeats itself almost too many times. If it wasn't for seeing the various ways in which Dean gets killed, I would have most definitely gotten bored. He chokes on food, gets squashed by the desk, and slips in the shower.

They eventually work through the various way of death and start to think about what's going on. They follow the girl that bumped into them. At the end of the scavenger hunt, they find The Trickster. Who says that he will take the “joke” away. After having to relive the same day hundreds of times and seeing your brother die THAT MANY TIMES, I would have been as relieved as Sam was.

The Trickster snaps his fingers and TO BEHOLD, it is Wednesday and Back in Time starts to play instead of Heat of the Moment.  That ends up being a trick as well but everything works out in the end.

This episode rode a fine line between being TOO repetitive and JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT of repetitive. Overall it turned out being a great episode (I have yet to see a bad episode). Now all we can do is sit back and wait for the inevitable real death of Dean Winchester..You know it’s coming..
