The Walking Dead (Tom Chatalbash)

Critic #1: Zack Handlen
The first critic I spotted who writes about The Walking Dead for the AV Club on a weekly basis is writer Zack Handlen. His reviews are always fairly organized and amateur in style. He recaps the show each week, bestowing a grade for each episode he reviews. His writing isn’t the most complex or articulate, but its accessible which is important when wanting to garner readership. His reviews are easy to read and have a subtle sense of humor permeating each of them. His humor doesn’t overpower his reviews or draws attention to itself. However, his reviews aren’t the most exciting or engaging to read, but I feel his style would be a fun challenge to emulate.

Critic #2: John Saavedra
The second critic I chose writes for Den of Geek, which is a website that contains reviews for a myriad of entertainment including television, film, comic books, and video games. Saavedra writes about The Walking Dead on a weekly basis and I really love his style of reviewing. He has a fun sense of humor and the structure of his reviews is easy on the eyes and very easy to navigate. He breaks his reviews down into different sections, ranging from what worked to key moments within an episode. His writing has respectable clarity and he clearly has a passion for the show. His style would be a blast to emulate and poke fun at, which is why I’m currently leaning toward taking a walk within his shoes.

Critic #3: Jeff Stone
The third and final critic I chose writes for Indie Wire and his reviews are probably the least professional out of the bunch I previously chose. His writing style is extremely basic and drenched in his personal opinions, which doesn’t make for professional reviews, but they are fun to read regardless. Like the previous reviewer, he breaks up his reviews of The Walking Dead into different sections with intriguing titles to catch the reader’s eye and to lure them in to read further. His vocabulary isn’t the most impressive and the structure of his sentences is a little stunted. However, his reviews are engaging to read and operate as fun little opinion pieces on episodes of the show, rather than professional, serious reviews of the program. Like the previous reviewer, he also seems to be a considerable fan of the show and that certainly is implemented into his reviews. He would also make for a great choice to emulate and I could certainly poke fun at his unorthodox style.
